The MNRF and the Hearst and Kapuskasing LCCs present the following videos that highlight and educate on forestry activities in the Hearst District. The (NFNA) Team is proud to share these bilingual videos and we are just as proud of the people you will see in them. Through their honesty, openness, and humour we hope you will get a sense, like we did, of their pride and passion in what they all do and take away from these presentations the values they all see in our forests and why sustaining them is, indeed, our future.

Seeds to Forest
In “Treeplanting”, we see what drives tree planters to do this job every year and the challenges they face in the course of doing it.
The “Summer Operations” video reveals the logging machines of today that get the job done during the summer months and the dedicated people that operate them.
Inserted archival footage, compliments of the Gosselin family of Hearst, also takes us back to how logging was done with horses and a lot of manual labour. As well, how mechanization has evolved through the years to this modern machinery we see harvesting the forest today.
Almost 70% of the harvesting done in our northern Boreal forest is done during the winter months. “Winter Operations”, details the challenges of working in the coldest months of the year, and showcases the dedicated people who do it.
“Tree Transformation” follows the path of the trees that are harvested off of the Hearst Forest, and the Gorden Cosens Forest in Kapuskasing. Sustaining our forests so that they will continue to supply the markets of today with the variety of products you will see here is just one side of the story. The people are the more important side of the story. They care about their communities and know full well the value of sustaining the forest they live in. You can’t have one without the other!
The final video, “Forest Management Planning”, while it may sound like something you want to scroll through is well worth the watch, and makes sense of and explains all the previous five.
